Sea Turtle Hatchlings, continued

Hopefully you all read the previous posting about my attending a turtle nest excavation.  If you didn't, go and read it  and then come back.  I will continue this post on the next page, click on "read more"

Later on the same evening, 2 of my friends called to tell me that they were going to release the turtle hatchlings on the beach by the lighthouse.  I hurried over there.  Thank goodness I did.  The ranger let my friends and I hold the turtles and let them go on the beach!  It was awesome!  When you picked up a turtle, it was moving, already ready to swim out to sea.  We set our hatchlings down on the sand and they made their way to the ocean.  It took most of them a few tries to get out past the waves, the waves would knock them back onto the beach, but they kept trying.  Lots of families were down on the beach and they all came to watch us release the turtles.  When the last turtle finally made it into the waves, everyone cheered and clapped!  It was a great experience.  Good luck to my little turtle friends, who are now floating in the ocean, eating and growning!
