Ocracoke Island

Friday, I went to Ocracoke Island to visit.  Unless you have an airplane, the only way to get to Ocracoke Island is by ferry.  There are no bridges you can drive over to get there.  You can take your car on the ferry.  Here is a picture of what one of the ferries looks like:



The ferry ride is about 45 minutes long.  On Ocracoke, I visited the lighthouse:





You might notice that the Ocracoke lighthouse is not as tall as the Hatteras light or the Bodie Island Light.  You did notice that, didn't you?  There is a reason is is much smaller:  The Ocracoke lighthouse is used to guide boats into the harbor, while Hatteras and Bodie Island lights are meant to warn ships at sea that the coastline is dangerous. Sadly, you cannot climb the Ocracoke lighthouse.
